To stoop so low as to protest at a funeral of a soldier who died to give them their freedom of speech. But whether we like the war or completely disagree with the reason for it, protesting at a funeral is just wrong, people are grieving, they have lost a loved one who gave their life for others. Not only are people not decorating the graves for the veterans, or loved ones either, they are protesting the reason for the death.

But I did know that it was to remember all those that had passed that were in the services as well as those that we loved. But you are so right, Flower Lady, that we have forgotten those that have passed. We should not need a holiday to make us remember or visit their grave sites. We should visit them as often as we visit those still living! Even it’s just to say “HI and we miss you”. We need to revive the true holiday with our kids by visiting the graves if are close enough to do so. If they are too far away, maybe we can create a tradition by getting a helium balloon for each loved one that has passed, then write a note and attaching it with some ribbon. Then as a group, we could release the balloons into the Heavens.

Comment on Crochet Bag with “GREEN” Ribbon or Recycled Bags by tina_md46052 http://www.decorativepackagingblog.com/crafts/4089-crochet-bag-with-green-ribbon-or-recycled-bags/comment-page-1/#comment-184 tina_md46052 Fri, 13 May 2011 11:06:31 +0000 http://www.decorativepackagingblog.com/?p=4089#comment-184 It is so easy to do! I have a book bag already started with the “plarn”. Start by folding the flattened bag in half, then again into quarters, then again into eighths. Cut the handles off, then the bottom off. While still folded, cut the bag into strips. Mine are about 1/2 an inch. Take 2 of the loops and attach them together by using a Larks head knot. Continue doing this until you have enough to get you started. Roll up the plarn as you go to keep it from becoming unruly. When you have all of made, then begin crocheting as you would with regular yarn. I’m using an “H” hook for the bag I have going right now.
The bags themselves are easy enough to collect, or you can grab a bag from the bag return spot at most grocery stores. After all…. you will be reusing them! Wal-Mart has white bags, IGA has blue bags, Kroger has tan bags, and Goodwill has neon green and orange bags. Wrap them in separate colors for stripes if you want, or make it completely random. The store logos will sort of create spots or color patches as you work. The plarn is not hard to work with. It slides through your fingers almost easier than regular yarn does.
